Help - 100% memory used


Hi,

i just installed a RH9 on my laptop (presario 14XL355) and i have a problem with the ram :

there are 128 Mb of ram and as soon as i get logged in, the mem use is set to 99 to 100%.

$free
indeed returned that almost the whole ram is used.

i tried a
$ps -aux
if i sum de mem%, i'm far from 100% (can't remember how far, but it was far ;o)

8Mb are for the video card, is it because of the sharing of the memory that i have all my ram used ?

How could i determine what is taking this amount of ram ?

hum, it seems to be the display...what a chance !

Hi fleuh,

High RAM usage is not necessarily a bad thing in Linux, after all what is the point in having RAM if you are not going to use it

If you do a little search of these forums you will find many threads asking the same question, and many excellent explanations of Linux memory usage.
