Fujitsu T4020D fans don't spin up early enough in ubuntu

Hy, so, I just recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 on a tablet pc. I installed ubuntu onto the hard drive on a desktop, and then inserted the HD into the tablet (long story, it was the only option). Right now my concern is that the fans wait far too long before spinning up. Is there a way to control the fan on it? I tried the toshiba util for shits and giggles and it said "fan: laptop does not have cooling fan or kernel module not installed." when I tried doing fan -n. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Addendum: I'm taking a lok at the sysinfo application right now, and with speedstep enabled, the frequency of my 1.73ghz is only at 800mhz, while puged in.

"cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/ temperature" says that there's no such directory (the dir tree goes up to thermal zone, with no files or folders there)

xsensors 0.50 gives me Temp and Remote_temp, both at o.oo*C

The hard drive is spinning somewhat beyond abnormally hot for...running two tabs of firefox and a command window. Also a tad of an issue
