FC4 wireless

Hi,

I have installed FC4 on my Laptop. I wanted to enable Wireless Lan. Unfortunately, I can not find the eth0, eth1 by using the command ifconfig. I have checked /dev folder and I didn't see any eth0 or eth1 intefaces. ifcfg-eth0 and ifcfg-eth1 are existing. where are normally the eth0 and eth1 interfaces in Fedora core 4 and how can I tell my Laptop that it has to enable them during booting?

Can someone help me?

Thank you.

Cheers, Massood

There should not be any ethX files in /dev. If "ifconfig" does not show any eth's either, then most likely the required kernel modules are not loaded. I cannot help you with FC but there is without doubt some network configuration tool somewhere in there.

Hello Basileus,

thank you very much for your response. Now I will tell you yesterday and what I have achieved. I have changed first my modprobe.conf file because there was too many nonsense paths. I have included the path of the module "ipw2200" where it has to load the ipw2200 module. Second, I had to disable the eth0 before using modprobe command to load the ipw2200. I don't know why? Normally, it has to load both interfaces with both modules (I have a RealTek 8169 for eth0). After disabling eth0 with "ifconfig eth0 down", it had loaded the module ipw2200. Then, I have activated the eth1 again and I had connectivity to my WLAN router and I could scan all other networks near to my laptop. I could ping my router too and the DNS in internet which my router asks for being sure that I have IP connectivity to internet. But I couldn't open any internet pages. It seems that I have an DNS problem on my laptop and I have probably to insert the DNS address of my router in my Laptop.

When I have gone the whole way and I am successful, I will write down all steps because I have composed all my Laptop HW modules by myself and FC4 can not find all HW modules like a Dell Laptop or sony laptop.

I will keep you informed.

Have a nice day.

Cheers, Massood
