double boot question


i'm running a hp pavilion laptop, just wondering what partition system I would use to double boot linux systems to compare

It doesnt matter what filesystem you use but I would recomend reiserfs.

does it make a difference for a laptop? if not what could i use to partition the disk easily?

No it doesnt matter and if you are going to install mandrake redhat suse or a distro like that it is automated if your not sure what to do. But if you are not cfdisk isnt that hard to use.
