creating a partition to run Linux Redhat 7.0

Hi Everyone,

I have a Toshiba Satellite M10 which has a NVidia Geforce 32MB graphics card and RedHat 7.0 does not recognise the card so I cannot use the X-window installation instructions that come with "Linux for Dummies" (where it describes how to create a partition). So how do I set up my laptop for Linux? I am very wary of partitioning my disks as I know nothing about it. Can anyone help? Please!!

Thank you,
Chris

RedHat 7.0 is getting a bit long in the tooth these days. If you can spare a few quid, you can get Linux CDs from places like cheeplinux.co.uk, or you can pick up a copy of one of the UK Linux magazines - they usually have distros on their cover cd/dvds. Or, if you have broadband, why not download a newer distro?

Thanks for the info. I did not know that magazines gave Linux distirbutions away. Unfortunately broadband is not in my village.

I know the feeling... and when I first contacted BT about it they said I had an 'orange' line so I was unlikely to get a 1 or 2Mbps service but a standard 512k service should work fine. Then the engineer came around and said "snowball's chance in hell of getting any adsl connection here". Buggar!

I find that LinuxFormat tend to do a good selection of complete distros on their cover DVDs. Often they will put (at least the first) CDs on the cover of the non-DVD edition.

Up here in North Yorkshire countryside(only 6 that is 6.0 miles from York - a reasonably sized place) BT said they need at least 50 separate requests for broadband before they "switch it on" at the local exchange. Some chance in a farming community! When I last asked they had received 7 requests. I am not sure that 50 families even live in this area. BT were so helpful and said I could get their satellite broadband service! I did a bit of research on the old net and surprise, surprise BT were legues ahead of anyone else when it came to installation prices (about a grand) even if I already have Sky! Looks like I will be 56K man for a while yet.
What happened to Fuhrer Blair's "Broadband for all" policy? Oh, he spoke to his superiors, oops I mean big business.
