I have a presario 715us laptop and I have never had a problem with the sound but you probably need to recompile the kernel, which means you will need to download the kernel headers and the kernel-source from your install cds, and check out this site too and click on the linux link, then the compaq presario 715us link, he even has the .config he uses to recompile his kernel. Hope that helps

I have a 722US and only had the problem with the sound when the volume was at full. I dont know if we have the same sound card or not, but that could be part of the problem. Try backing off your voulme a little bit. Secondly, about the video driver, mine worked right off from boot. My advice there is to try and reconfigure your driver either by reinstalling, or you can do it in the GUI, but I cant remember how.
