[SOLVED] CentOS 6.2 sleeps when closing lid

I have freshly installed CentOS 6.2 on a DELL Latitude D420 and all seems going to be well - except for one critical problem: When I close the lid, the laptop goes to sleep, despite the settings in Power Management Preferences:

  Put computer to sleep when inactive for: Never
  When laptop lid is closed:               Blank screen
  [] Spin down hard disks when possible    (unchecked)

 Display
  Put display to sleep when inactive for:   30 minuts
  Set display brightness to:                100%
  [v] Dim display when idle                 (checked)

Yes, the power cable is connected!

Any idea how to solve this problem?

No. The only power-management related BIOS settings are for WOL and USB powering.

For the On Battery Power tab as well, and now the laptop stays on when I close the lid.

I consider this a CentOS 6.2 bug.

I guess it could be that it was assumed that on closed lid a person might take it portable so the default is on lid closed use battery?

You never know about some of these things but glad you fixed it and posted back.

Well, I happen to use the laptop remotely (via LAN, AC powered) and I prefer the lid to be closed so that the keyboard doesn't collect dust. This is why there are 2 tabs: [On AC Power] and [On Battery Power]. It's a bug (unless unambiguously documented as a feature).

Put the laptop into Run-Level 3 (multi-user no graphics) works for me.

sudo init 3

and make it permanent change 5 to 3 in this line of /etc/inittab

id:3:initdefault:
