Backtrack 2 not showing HDD ?

I have an everex VA2000T core dual 1.73, 1.5gb ram, 100HDD
and i am tryin to see my HDD in backtrack all I get when i type mount is:
tmpfs on / type tmpfs (rw)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw)
usbfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw,devgid=10,devmode=0666)

then typed fdisk - 1 and got

Usage: fdisk [-b SSz] [-u] DISK Change partition table
fdisk -l [-b SSZ] [-u] DISK List partition table(s)
fdisk -s PARTITION Give partition size(s) in blocks
fdisk -v Give fdisk version
Here DISK is something like /dev/hdb or /dev/sda
and PARTITION is something like /dev/hd7
-u: give Start and End in sector (instead of cylinder) units
-b 20048: (for certain MO disks) use 2048-byte sectors

How can I get my drives to show up even in qtparted it only shows the dvdr drive?
what can I do I am tryin to install backtrack in a dual boot config.
also my atheros AR5005g card is not showing I don't know hwta's wrong it is a brand new laptop only 2 days old
Please help.please I've been searching everywhere googling and everything even joined remote exploit for some help but it won't let me post there

i think you misread the fdisk command, presumably it's "fdisk -l" (L) you want, not "fdisk -1" (one). that will list all known disk drives.

This is somewhat off the question but I do have a question for rustyman. I have ordered this computer. I am concerned about the display with the Via graphics card. Can you tell me whether you are getting a high resolution display with linux?

Thanks for the information rustyman1. BestBuy is sold out of the Toshiba that you recommended. Before I ordered the Everex, I ordered the same Toshiba from Office Depot at about the same price after the rebate that you indicated at BestBuy. The story of why I did not get it is a story of the incompetence of modern American business. When I attempted to buy it online, the Office Depot website would not take the order because it insisted that my address was wrong. I then placed the order by telephone. The order taker got both my name and address wrong but my card number right. When I discovered the error the next day, their system did not allow them to make the correction. Eventually, they changed the address on the order to UPS but not the address on the package itself. The package made three round trips between two distribution points of UPS. I also requested that they send me a corrected bill by email, something that they do routinely with online orders. I was told that the telephone order department had no capability of sending an email but they could send a fax. I told them that I did not have a fax machine and could not use my computer to get a fax because I have DSL. Without a corrected bill, I could not get the rebate. I spent hours on the telephone with customer service agents, supervisors, and resolution team members. While I was going through this, the time period for the rebate ended. I then asked them to cancel the order, start a new order with the correct information, and date it at the time of the original order. I was told that it couldn't be done. Eventually, when they refused to do anything and the laptop was riding around in circles on UPS, I had my bank cancel the charge. When I informed Office Depot of this, they found a way to recall the package from UPS.

If as you say, the Everex wont work properly, I do not know what the next step will be. I ordered the Everex from Wal-Mart because I can return it easily without a hassle. I do not need an expensive laptop since I use it as a backup for my desktop and for my rare trips.

"That is easy for you to say". The closest Bestbuy to me is 100 miles away.

I disagree

Sorry rustyman1. I purchased the Everex 2000T two days ago and I find that it is a perfectly good computer if you know what you are doing. pclinuxos and SimplyMepis have done everything that I wanted so far. I am having trouble with Ubuntu and Kubuntu because they will not let me adjust the display resolution. I regard this as an Ubuntu problem not an Everex problem.

Smile Regarding resolution on Everex laptops

The only distro that worked without endelssly searching for drivers was Xandros OCE. I tried EVERY distro out there. Commercial and non commercial with my Everex laptop which of course contains the Chrome9 HC IGP graphics chip.

Well our experiences differ. pclinuxos, which I regard as the best linux distribution, worked without any trouble. I had a little trouble with the display on Simply Mepis but got the solution on the mepis forum. You can find it by searching under sheine. Ubuntu was difficult. I finally got what I wanted by copying the xorg.conf file from Simply Mepis and replacing the one on Ubuntu with it.
