acer aspire 9920g overheating nvidia 8600M GT, are any commnds to control the tempature which is, it rises to 80c,comes down to 69c the it starts again
Acer Aspires are notorious for overheating: some were even recalled. Try
1. opening it up and making sure the heat sinks are not dusty.
2. switching to Fuduntu Linux.
3. looking at this https://lesswatts.org/
4. if you don't want to play games on it, disable the Nvidia graphics (if possible) http://askubuntu.com/questions/13321...is-overheating
What i have done now ,i have taken the back of the Acer aspire 9920g,and ihave got an fan plugged into usb port put it under the oringal fan permanent which is still working this cuts in at 82c andbrings it down at the moment it's 59c,now the temparture has come down from 80c to 57c
This laptop is known for its huge power consumption (over 80W even on idle, over 100W under load) and since it is a little bit older the first thing I would doo is to clean out the cooling system.
Are you using the free nouveau drivers (which still have problems with power management) or the proprietary Nvidia drivers? If the first, I would install the proprietary drivers, if the latter, have you tried to set the GPU to power save mode in the settings application?
I have an acer aspire 3620 which ran hot almost all of the time, while repairing dc/jack I noticed a lot of dust blocking heatsink removed it & I was able to even run Virtualbox without overheating.
Now I believe that I have to clean it again, due to overheating.
Although last night I installed winsxp to VM & there was no overheating I believe it was because I propped the machine up so vent wasn't too close to surface where I sat machine during installation.
