ACPI yes/no question

ACPI enabled in the machine (compaq armada 1750)
ACPI detected by the kernel (2.6.17.13)
dmesg ACPI | grep ... yep, it's there
kill -9 acpid
cat /proc/acpi/event
pressed power button, lid button, plugged/unplugged AC cable
...
no events seen on screen...
...
pc fans do not activate even when hot...

Question:
Should I dissable ACPI?

Not so yes/no...
Given that on the same machine running win2k, ACPI is detected, should I try to get ACPI working, or is APM good enough?

Fan's don't run? No screen events? That should be sign enough not to kill acpi.

woops, sorry, english sintax engine not responding...

after killing acpi I do:
cat /proc/acpi/event
and then try different things (power button, AC power plug) to see if it's generating events. With acpid on, nothing work (fan, power button or sleep button)
