Shutdown Problem

Hi all........
I have Fedora 7 installed on my PC.
Whenever I want to shutdown/Restart my PC, I usually go through
System-Shut Down- & then Press on 'Shutdown' button.
But at the end...... my computer does not shutdown, It gives message
as 'System Halted'.....

This problem does not occur when I used System-Shut Down- & then pressed on 'Restart' button......

PLZ HELP ME.......
Thank you .

On modern hardware, the system should be able to turn itself off. If it doesn't, maybe there is some ACPI incompatibility issue. I'm no hardware expert, but apparently, some hardware manufacturers break the ACPI standard in ways that happen to work under Windows (which, presumably, is the only OS they test) but not under other OSes.

Either way, when the computer says "System Halted," it's safe to turn it off manually.

Probably not so much "a bug in Fedora-7," but an undetected incompatibility with your hardware. The previous comment is on-the-mark. Remember, Fedora (as a binary distro) is "one size fits all."

Why don't you try testing thinsg a bit by issuing the command

shutdown -h now

from a terminal as root and see if that works
