replacing kernel


hello all!!!
I hav recently downloaded one kernel file near abt 50 MB in size.I wann nw to replace my old kernel with this newer version ..can nebody help me n tell me the commands to do tat.I actually downloaded it for support of ntfs file system.I m having fedora core 4.Also tell me some patches to support ntfs in fc4 so i can try in case this newer kernel also doesnt support ntfs.
