Kernel version display mismatch at login vs uname

Hi !

Not really a problem, but i'd like to understand why this happens.

I compiled a 2.6.32.3 kernel for a PXE Slackware.
I compile on the server, then i copy modules, sources and kernel in the export.

Now that's what happens on PXE client in console mode :

Welcome to Linux 2.6.32.3 (tty6)

then i log in and i see :

Linux 2.6.31.4

and , of course uname -r gives 2.6.32.3

What is the content(s) of the /etc/issue file on the client machine (and for that matter, on the other machine too, since I don't have a whole whack of experience with PXE)?

That'd be my first place to look, since /etc/issue* are the files that get displayed when logging into a machine by various means.

On both machines :
cat /etc/issue
