Kernel panic when booting from my new kernel(version 2.6.17.11)


I compiled and installed the kernal 2.6.17.11 and when i try to boot from it it gives an error as bellow, after displaying "starting NASH ..." and stops

bellow is the exact error message

mount: error 19 mounting ext3
ERROR opening /dev/console !!!!:2
error dup2' ing fd of 0 to 0
error dup2' ing fd of 0 to 1
error dup2' ing fd of 0 to 2
swtchroot: mount failed 22
kernel panic- not syncing :Attempted to kill init !

please help me to solve this

You missed something when you configured your options, possibly either a disk controller option or file system option. Go back through the config and make sure you have compiled in everything you need. File systems needed to boot should be compiled into the kernel instead of as modules.
