kernel compiling error!!!


hi all,

i am trying to compile my kernel2.6.16 but it is giving me errors .." /usr/src/kernels/linux-2.6.16/scripts/gcc-version.sh: line 11: gcc3: command not found
/usr/src/kernels/linux-2.6.16/scripts/gcc-version.sh: line 12: gcc3: command not found "

please help me!!!!!!

Do you have gcc installed? whereis gcc Is it in your path? echo $PATH
