IrDA donauboe module compile failure.

I'm trying to recompile the 2.4 kernel with Slackware 11.0 to include support for IrDA and the donauboe driver for the IR sensor in my Tecra 8100 notebook. When I try to make the kernel modules, I get a long series of error messages from gcc that say:
Code:
error: syntax error before "__FUNCTION__"
From a mailing list message for a different project, I think it has something to do with the version of gcc (which is 3.4.6 in my case), but I'm not sure what to do about it.

That error doesn't say too much (__FUNCTION__ is rather ok). You should look into the file first error occurs (there should be line given in the error message) and check what may be wrong. If in doubt, post the code fragment.

It may be a gcc issue, but it's really hard to say without seeing what exactly causes problems.
