How to use kernel's crypto API inside the kernel to compute an MD5 hash ?

Hi,

We have to compute the checksum of a file that a process has opened, from inside the kernel. Is there any way to use the kernel's crypto API to compute the MD5 hash of the file ? Please demonstrate with a small example of computing the MD5 hash of any small string.

Any help wil be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!

Here at LQ we don't like doing your research and homework for you.
So please provide proof (code) it isn't. Else search for "Cryproc".

I have a not so different question ...

I'm coding a netfilter module and I need to calculate a md5sum (userspace tools are out of question).

How to access the kernel api md5 functions (they seem to be optimized for block access encryption)?

If I'm not mistaken there will be the same answer for me (RTFM or similar) - but I'm still searching for good documentation for the crypto API and general use of the md5 kernel functions.

Greetings
jo
