Freezing video/ERROR pipe A+B underrun+CPU pipe FIFO underrun

I am running xubuntu

Gateway 400vtx
2400 pentium 4
2GB
Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01)

kernel: [ 23.059448] [drm:intel_set_cpu_fifo_underrun_reporting [i915]] *ERROR* pipe A underrun
kernel: [ 23.069273] [drm:intel_set_cpu_fifo_underrun_reporting [i915]] *ERROR* pipe B underrun
kernel: [ 23.069325] [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe B FIFO underrun

The problem started after a failed installation of archlinux, I believe. I tried to fix the problem by reinstalling all my kernels in Synaptic but only ended up disabling my touch pad clicker. Anyway, I need help fixing it.

Just tried to USB boot Ubuntu 14.04 and it failed to load.

The last few lines said:

[15.284012] kernel offset disabled
[15.284012] --- [end kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block [2.0]
[25.332033] random: nonblocking pool is initialized

Also when I do a disk check with the Ubuntu USB program it says everything is good, but right before the scan starts I get about 8 errors. The three I have posted above in my original post and similar "PIPE" and "CPU" errors mostly. One of the errors was PVC or PVS, can't remember it flashed by quick. If helpful I could maybe take a picture of it to get the exact error codes.
