zoom 3049 extrnl modem work with RH 9

after about 3 weeks of fiddeling around with an intel 536ep winmodem that i can not get to work(i can't even get the driver to unzip and the instructions are very confusing ) . i have decided to go and get a zoom 3049 external hardware modem.

will this serial modem work in the red hat 9 os and is it easy install.

also if anyone is using another type of serial modem please post make and model so that i can search for a cheap external modem.

Well, strangely, I had problems with the Intel 536ep - could connect, but little/no data through-put...... - recently bought a

Creative External Serial modem

works perfectly under

Fedora Core1
Slack 9.1
Mandrake 9.2

etc

no extra drivers or config required - in kppp for example just put in

the device name of the modem (/dev/ttyS0 for mine)
connection speed
phone number
username
password

etc etc

you should'nt have problems with an external serial modem.

I have a Zoom 3049 working fine with Suse. Also got it working ok with Knoppix.

I've only tried V90 mode as my ISP does not support V92.

drivers for zoom 3049

where can I get drivers for this modem, for Red Hat 9? I have just done my first linux install, and I have the modem working using the normal serial drivers, but it's soooo sloooooow.
Also, any hints on how to configure the modem with new drivers??
