xorg radeon driver and tv-out

I have been working on getting tv-out working and I've had limited success. I can get the tv-out to work in the console but when I start X using the opensource radeon driver I get a garbled screen, almost like a sync issue. If I use the vesa driver it works perfectly, except that it's very slow playing videos.

From some of the reading I have done it looks like there are some issues with the radeon driver and tvout. I'm wondering if anyone can confirm and maybe link to some information about this issue? Or perhaps a solution?

I'm running an Emachines M5310 laptop with an igp320 video card.
Mandriva Free 2007 and Xorg 7.1

Thanks,

I have a HP laptop with the IGP320 and I've had to use the atitvout utility to output to a tv. It's been a long time since I've used it and I don't remember if I was using the radeon driver at the time. It also might not work with recent versions of Xorg. But I do remember having to have the s-video cable connected and the tv powered on before booting the laptop. And the utility runs from a command line so there's a process of

atitvout -n
atitvout -t or -l

-n would tell it to use ntsc and -t or -l is to switch between tv and lcd. It doesn't support both simulataneously.

Also your Xorg.conf monitor section would need to be modified for the refresh rate of the tv and to set a max res of 800x600.

Good luck.

confirmed

Do not know the whole solution, but know that running the vesa driver in 800*600
usually allow TV-out to work much more easily. There are more than 1 solution
