Xinerama + Fedora Core 4

Hello!

I'm using Fedora Core 4 with two screens:

-Philips 107B
-Philips 107E

I would use the 107B as the default screen.

This is my xorg.conf:

Quote:
# Xorg configuration created by system-config-display

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Multihead layout"
Screen 0 "Screen0" LeftOf "Screen1"
Screen 1 "Screen1" 0 0
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
Option "Xinerama" "on"
Option "Clone" "off"
EndSection

Section "Files"

# RgbPath is the location of the RGB database. Note, this is the name of the
# file minus the extension (like ".txt" or ".db"). There is normally
# no need to change the default.
# Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together)
# By default, Red Hat 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of
# the X server to render fonts.
RgbPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb"
FontPath "unix/:7100"
EndSection

Section "Module"
Load "dbe"
Load "extmod"
Load "fbdevhw"
Load "glx"
Load "record"
Load "freetype"
Load "type1"
Load "dri"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"

# Specify which keyboard LEDs can be user-controlled (eg, with xset(1))
# Option "Xleds" "1 2 3"
# To disable the XKEYBOARD extension, uncomment XkbDisable.
# Option "XkbDisable"
# To customise the XKB settings to suit your keyboard, modify the
# lines below (which are the defaults). For example, for a non-U.S.
# keyboard, you will probably want to use:
# Option "XkbModel" "pc102"
# If you have a US Microsoft Natural keyboard, you can use:
# Option "XkbModel" "microsoft"
#
# Then to change the language, change the Layout setting.
# For example, a german layout can be obtained with:
# Option "XkbLayout" "de"
# or:
# Option "XkbLayout" "de"
# Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
#
# If you'd like to switch the positions of your capslock and
# control keys, use:
# Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:swapcaps"
# Or if you just want both to be control, use:
# Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:nocaps"
#
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "kbd"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "fr_CH"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "PHILIPS 107E"
DisplaySize 310 230
HorizSync 30.0 - 92.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 160.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor1"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Philips 107B(17inch/CM6800)"
HorizSync 30.0 - 92.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 160.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "radeon"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "ATI Radeon 9200PRO"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard1"
Driver "radeon"
VendorName "Videocard Vendor"
BoardName "ATI Radeon 9200PRO"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Screen 1
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 16
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen1"
Device "Videocard1"
Monitor "Monitor1"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768"
EndSubSection
EndSection

Section "DRI"
Group 0
Mode 0666
EndSection
So it run, but the default screen is the 107E (low-quality screen...).

I tried two changement:

1) from

Quote:
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
[...]
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen1"
Device "Videocard1"
Monitor "Monitor1"
to

Quote:
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard1"
Monitor "Monitor1"
[...]
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen1"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
There aren't consequences

2) I changed from

Quote:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard1"
Driver "radeon"
VendorName "Videocard Vendor"
BoardName "ATI Radeon 9200PRO"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Screen 1
to

Quote:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard1"
Driver "radeon"
VendorName "Videocard Vendor"
BoardName "ATI Radeon 9200PRO"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Screen 0
So, there is a problem: the Xinerama doesn't run! There is any sample screen-cloning. And the DRI (previously running) doesn't run!

metallic.altervista.org/Xorg.0.log - this is the Xorg's log (with the second changement).

Now, I've two questions:

1) Why the Xinerama doesn't run?
2) I would insert device option (MergedFB, NoAccel, AGPMode,...), but, where? In "Videocard0" section or in "Videocard1" section?

Idea?

Thanks, it's very important (the work with one screen is ugly ...)

P.S. The 107B's on left of the 107E

ok, this is kinda odd... i updated from fc4 to fc5 and had what appears to be this exact issue. if i'm right, then it goes like this...

the xorg-x11 radeon driver appears to have changed in some way recently, meaning that it no longer supports generic Xinerama over the same card. the X server picks up both devices under a single device declaration. if you remove all trace of Xinerama in the ServerLayout section, and also anything like a MergedFB declaration (MergedFB willl force a Xinerama-less spread right across both screens, i.e. maximize across both etc... yuck..) and you'll probably get it coming up just fine. I much much prefer the two seperate device sections and a manual glueing together with Xinerama, but that doesn't seem possible on my system at least, xorg-x11 7.0 with a 9200 PRO
