Unhappy Xfree86-4 Problems

I changed mouse settings an Explorer Mouse in XFREE86-4 and rebooted now no windows managers only a command prompt. IT says (Bluebird mandrake 8.2) and then says somthing like ENIT :initiate RUNLEVEL 3 or press enter it dozen't do anything so I press enter and get the command prompt. But I am a newbie and not seasoned enough to fix it from the prompt.How can I reconfigure it? Good thing I have a dual boot.
I tried to reconfigure XFree86-4
IT booted to a blank gray screen I guess thats something. But when I ran the config I saw where the problem is, it diden't like when I changed the mouse button option to "7". I ran a XFree86-4 configure to and dident even get a gray screen. How do I edit the XF86FreeConfig-4 file through the command prompt?? If I can do this I think I can fix it!!

(No Pain No Gain)

If you just wanna set your mouse options back to what they were manually, just edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file and change them.

To expand on taz.devil's response, in case you aren't familiar with non-GUI editors:

- !! First, make a backup of the existing file !!:
cp XF86Config-4{,.BadMouse.bak}

-Open XF86Config-4 in the vi editor:
vi /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

-Enter insert editing mode by hitting the <Insert> key.

-Use <Pg Dn> to get to the "InputDevice" section.

-Use the arrow keys to navigate to the entries you need to modify.

-Make your changes

-Hit <Esc>

-Type :wq to save the changes.
