i attempted a gui Redhat 8.0 install but it defaulted to text mode

the install assigned the video card a VESA (generic) driver. it seems like the error messages are contradictory because the error log also says:

"(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration."
and
"Fatal server error:
no screens found"

the relevant portion of the error log follows:

Quote:
(II) Loading sub module "int10"
(II) LoadModule: "int10"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/linux/libint10.a

Since it IS hardware related, it would be preferable if you keep it here. Since the thread has already started, it is much less confusing to keep to the one. Thanks...

the redhat website lists the FireGL 1000/1000 Pro/3000 as "compatible." in addition to the VESA (generic) drivers referred to above, i have tried the listed drivers without success.

Component: 2D Video Adapter
Status: Compatible
Comments: XFree86 3.3.6 Server: XF86_3dlabs
XFree86 4.0.3-5 Driver: glint
Card Chipset: 3D Labs Permedia 2
Driver
Location: Red Hat Linux installation CD
