Wireless pci card debian compatible


Hi,

i need to buy a wireless card to use on my desktop computer, i have pci and usb slots available.

This system is debian kernel 2.4.18 and the wireless card should be compatible, if possible i would like to use the drivers in the kernel.

Drivers in modconf

airo - Cisco/Aironet 34X/35X/4500/4800 PCMCIA cards
hermes - Hermes Chipset 8022.11 support (Orinoco/Prism2/Symbol c
orinoco - Hermes Chipset 8022.11 support (Orinoco/Prism2/Symbol c
orinoco_plx - Hermes 802.11b in PLX9052 based PCI adaptor support


What do u sugest?

orinoco are known to be very good and efficient card. A must.
However, cards that use Prism 2 chipset (up to 2.5, Prism 3 are not that good) are known to be incredibly powerful card, it might be a good idea too. Still, these card might be harder to get to work (my Prism3 card was a nightmare!) but it is always possible to do so. A lot of manufacturer are using Prism chipset, search a bit google about it.

Btw, I don't really recommmend using kernel wireless drivers, most of them are pretty outdated. Wireless is just too new, you will probably need beta drivers/upload newer firmware if you wish to use advanced feature from your card.
