Wireless on linux

Hey there before you leave this thread and grumble at another wifi for Linux thread, I'm not trying to get hardware but rather looking to buy hardware that already works well with Linux. I need/want to get some kind of wireless solution for a project I'm working on. So I'm looking for something that either has some kind of Linux drivers or is easier than eating nails for setting up.

Thanks in advance for your help,
~Jon

From personal experience, Ubuntu seamlessly detects Atheros-based & Intel-based cards out-of-the-box. I'd aim for those two.

This the atheros-based card that I have (the intel one is in a laptop): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833129031

Also, Ralink-based wireless cards are well supported and have open source drivers, but unfortunately have no in-kernel support (yet). In case you're interested, the link to the drivers, info, supported cards, etc is this.

Oh, and I almost forgot, ralink-based cards (at least the rt2500 chipset which is what I'm using) work out of the box on many distros I've tried, like Ubuntu, Elive, Dreamlinux, etc. (even on FreeBSD, PC-BSD, etc.)

Thanks for the help guy's I will have a look around. I have seen several online vendors selling cards but they dont state what chipset they have I guess it's a case of finding a better vendor.
