Wireless networking hell

First off, I am a linux newbie so bear with me please!

My OS: Fedora Core 2 kernel 2.6.5-1.358smp
My Nic: Linksys WMP54G

I tried NDISwrapper with no success. I downloaded the linuxant driverloader trial license and I have had minor success. (that is what I am using right now in attempt to get the nic working).

I assume root and do the following command:

/sbin/iwlist eth0 scan

I can then see all the possible networks to connect to, including my own.

When I go into my network settings in the desktop GUI and try to activate my nic I get the following output:

Quote:
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device eth0:1 ; Invalid argument.
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device eth0:1 ; Invalid argument.

Determining IP information for eth0:1...SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address
failed.
What I would like to find out, is how the heck to connect to my network! I know I must be able to connect if I can see the darn thing using the iwlist command!

Any help from you pros would be MUCH appreciated!

Apologies for the nubness in my post too, I know you guys have gotten a million of these problems before. I just wanted to try and ask some pros first before resorting to buying a wireless bridge.

Hi,
I have the same problem.
It worked fine with Fedora Core 1. It also did not work with Fedora Core 1 and Kernel 2.6.

I actually just solved this recently! My problem was that I did not have '0x' in front of my WEP key! If you haven't tried this I suggest doing so!
