WinTV Express - how to install?

I bought a WinTV Express card with a BT878 tuner last week and stuck it in my PC. I tried installing a series of TV utilities until I found one that worked - sort of. TVTime tuned in and displayed 7 channels but with no sound. I've since tried to follow instructions on a load of different sites, but have just ended up confusing myself and screwing up the installation to the point where I have no longer any picture (and still no sound) and don't know whether I'm coming or going in terms of modules, drivers etc.

I'm trying to install on Ubuntu 6.10

Can anyone help me install the thing in simple terms?
Tell me what dmesg or other output I need to post up if necessary.
Thanks.

Has anyone ever installed one of these cards? It's supposed to be supported, but nobody I ask seems to have used one.

Try seeing if farpoint can give you a hand with it there seems to be some options needed from the post in this thread here.

Cheers for the reply.
I'm still badly stuck though. I can't remove the bttv module to try and load it with another option, when I type sudo modprobe -r bttv I get "FATAL: Module bttv is in use."
Since I did something yesterday (installing ivtv I think), it's become impossible to change from channel 0. A couple of days ago I could change all the channels and had picture on some of them, but no sound. I've screwed it up and am lost

Just bumping this on the off-chance someone might be able to help. I've just got a useless lump of metal in my lowest PCI slot as it stands
