which CentOS version for a DL760?
I really have no idea what kind of architecture this machine has. Am trying to help someone get a free linux based server program going on it. I figured centos was the way to go, but I have no idea about architecture. will i386 work on it? apparently, it has 8 processors. I have never worked with this stuff before.

Is there a reason I shouldn't? If I were to purchase a new server, and said that I wanted Linux on it, wouldn't they tell me to use RHEL? CentOS is a RHEL clone isn't it?
Is CentOS up to the task? Is is overkill?

ROTFL! I was just making fun of you posting a link to a set of Power PC docs instead of Intel architecture ones.
CentOS is a RHEL clone, yes, but one's that supported by a growing community of users and it will prove to be up to the task. It's not overkill and there certainly is nothing wrong with CentOS.

Oh yes....well the link you posted DID tell me about the architecture, and I thank you for that. And I am indeed an idiot, because I didn't even get the joke ;P
