When 'noapci' doesn't work....
This isn't actually a question...I just wanted to share a recent experience in the hope it helps somebody else.
I've had on-going issues with my Dell Latitude, as the wifi adapter would enter deep sleep and the computer was unable to wake it. This almost always resulted in a shutdown/boot cycle. (I don't like rebooting and this laptop wont power cycle on reboot anyway!)
After much seaching I (seperately) tried using 'noacpi', 'acpi=off' and 'pci=noapci' kernel options at boot and they worked fine; problem solved ......except when I needed to use my port replicator. Then the laptop wouldn't find it, at all.
After further searching the documentation in detail (and in desperation!) I eventually came across the option 'pcie_aspm=off', which sorted my problem completely.
There are other options associated with 'pcie_apsm' that may work better for others. I would suggest looking into the kernel options for your kernel and try different options to see which works best for you.
In no way do I suggest that I'm knowledgable on these matters but found this worked for me. I'm sure more experienced users will be able to make clear arguments for and against doing this and I look forward to reading any such debate.
