hi, unfortunately im lost with this. I got a notebook with an intel duo 2 core and want to install linux on it but dont know whether to take an amd64 version or sth else? I threw in a suse10 dvd and it told me i was going to install a 32bit version on a 64 bit box. Any suggestions? Would be highly appreciated! Thanks...

Most distros either have 32bit install disc or 64bit ones. Any distro should work. Just that each distros has it pros and cons when it comes to hardware especially notebooks. Some do better at audio where others do better at the nic. You will more than likely get 90percent working with just a few glitches. See what hardware is not working search here or on google and see if would work and then what it takes.
I bought one of the first Core Duo notebooks and run through two 64bits distros and I can tell you, that you won't see difference beside troubles with getting lot of software to work/compile under 64.
If you want to squeeze extra bits from using high tech use a distro which lets you compile packages. I advice you Archlinux.
thanks, i somewhere read the kernel should be >= 2.16.19 for intel d2c. i'm gonna give gentoo a try i guess. or Archlinux? i'll take a look at that first :-)
