video playback problems during fast video sequences

Hello,

I've got a very wired effect on my 1.86GHz laptop during fast video sequences. It's like if the laptop were too slow to display the images. There is a kind of horizontal "breach" in the displayed video image (as if one part of the image would display an old frame and the other part the new frame).
It doesn't matter if the video file is played from DVD or HD, the effect is the same. BTW: I have already enabled the DMA for the DVD drive.
I have also installed the ATI video driver and set the frame-buffer swap to vertical-sync in the xorg.conf.
Any ideas would could I do to have a smooth video playback? Anybody else have every had a similar problem??

regards,
atti

Hmm,
Did you check that your DMA is really active (hdparm /dev/hda)?
Did you check that indeed the ati driver (fglrx) is running (glxinfo | grep fglrx). It often happens that ati's driver is installed but note working and thus vesa or so is used instead.
Just my quick thoughts. Good luck!

I think I have found the problem. It seems that my xorg.conf didn't have all the ATI options in order to configure the Xserver properly. After using the xorg.conf setting (that I found in the ubuntu forum) the video playback seems to be ok.

thanks for the help anyway,
atti
