Then the problem is maybe due to the fact that you ran ./snddevices.
You can try another mixer (like kmix if you're using KDE) to see if it works
Hey Thanks . Sound quality was not good, I just ran kmix and changed some settings and now sound quality is excellent. I don't mind the alsamixer as long as I can hear quality sound without it
I have one ASUS notebook with VIA audio driver. The the sound card works fine on windows, however, in linux (fedora 11) it shows as intel sound card. And I am not able to hear sound.
I tried to update alsa libs using yum, but nothing worked for me.
Have you tried to unmute the various channels and see if it works. You can use alsamixer from command line, or use your distro's control panel to do so.
