Using an Atheros WLAN card as Access Point

I'm trying to get my D-Link DWL-AG520 (Atheros Chipset) to work as an access point on my server....

- I'm using the madwifi drivers
- Connecting to my laptop works fine (3com g card) (using it as an software accesspoint with iwconfig)

server:
iwconfig display:
ath0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"xxxxx"
Mode:Master Frequency:2.412GHz Access Point: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Bit Rate:0kb/s Tx-Power:50 dBm Sensitivity=0/3
Retry:off RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality:43/94 Signal level:-95 dBm Noise level:-95 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

everything looks fine compared to the setup i've run successfully on my laptop.
I've also tried using 802.11b, but with no luck.

When I try to connect to my server using my laptop, the server is listed as an ap, but when i try to connect nothing happens.

btw, i'm not using WEP

Any help would be appreciated
