USB TRoubles
Hello,
I have a nice Acer FTP2 and after windows crashed (the box worked fine with win 2000 and ME and 98) I thought it is time to install linux on that box.
It is a 1 Mhz pentium box wit only usb no keyboard or mouse interface, LCD screen attached on the housing of the box. It can only held one pci card, video is on board.
Usb is what acer calls a medium usb it supports 12 mhz maximum.
I tried several systems, (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Mephis, Xandros) but with all the systems I have the same trouble.
The Keyboard and mouse don't work correct. They react slow and it is hard to get the pointer in place. Sometimes the keyboard reacts double on a keystroke or not at all.
The only system that works is DSL but that has some problems with the screen.
From what I now DSL uses the old kernel 2.4 while all the other systems use 2.6. So my first idea is, the problem is in the USB drivers. It is possible that the wrong drivers are connected to the usb ports or the ports are recognized as 2.0 but are 1.1.
My technical knowledge about the USBdrivers is not so good, so can anyone give me some info to get things work ?
Thanks in advance.

If you can get into the BIOS, see if it offers USB Keyboard Emulation or a similar setting. This will make the USB Keyboard act like a PS/2 keyboard. Also, are you using any intermediate hubs between the keyboard and input devices? If so, try removing those and working without it and see if the same behavior is experienced.

No these options are not there. And I have no hubs between the keyboard/mouse and the box.
But I can make a try with a 1.0 hub between the box and mouse/keyboard.(Did not help!)
I have disabled all power management and PCI management.
With Ubuntu I use Noapic because I suspected the powermanagement.
One of the systems complained that DMA was not activated!
