usb shows in ls but no usb drive attached

ls shows that I have a usb drive

Code:
root@openmediavault:/media# ls
005cdb8a-afea-495a-9720-2f6000bd9242 d9c99781-65cb-4d40-8f3e-914be59ca694
0a08d3df-bdd9-4bdc-8de7-a6198639892a f0cffec4-ed8a-41cd-89c4-7a7d066a27d6
768c6aa2-8d5d-4fa1-991b-78333b8bc169 floppy
8307d85e-116f-466b-bb84-366f9028fa08 floppy0
8b48f1c6-de36-454f-9427-90fb1953b794 usb
cdrom usb0
And changing to the usb directory shows files and folders. However, I don't actually have a usb drive attached. What is happening with this? Is my system somehow "remembering" a drive that was attached at some point?

thanks

Did you unmount or select the option to Safely Remove before removing the usb drive?

there's a LOT of stuff in your /media folder. i've never seen anything like it. for me it only contains the folders of media attached (not even the cdrom).
have all these drives existed at somepoint?
do ALL those folders contain something?

You probably had usb drives mounted at some point and simply removed them without unmounting them first so the system thinks they are mounted. To check look in the /proc/mounts file to see what the system thinks is mounted. If the mounts file does not show them as mounted then for some other reason the system has not caught up with the existing configuration. You may need to reboot to correct it and then see if it happens again.
