usb>parallel>action laser 1500

So i have this old laser printer, an Epson action laser 1500. To use it with my laptop I bought a usb to parallel converter by sabrent.

Everything seems to work. The converter and printer are recognized and /dev/usblp0 and the /dev/usb/lp0 are created. So i set up the printer using the action laser 1000 driver (which should work with the 1500 model) and I have set the device URI to parallel:/dev/usb/lp0 .
Then I try to print of a test page and i get this message
Processing-printer busy; will retry in 30 seconds.
and it stays like this

I have tried multiple URIs and printer drivers but to no avail.

anyone have similar experiences?

Ben

ps I am running Linux Mint 7 with the 2.6.28 kernel

The following page shows the CUPS driver support for the closest match to your printer.
