USB mouse on Dell D600 - wheel not working

Hi,

I am using Mandriva 2006 on a Dell D600 Laptop. The computer's trackpad/thumbstick appears as a PS/2 mouse to the computer and works. I often connect a USB mouse to take advantage of the wheel.

I had to reinstall Mandriva recently; since then, the wheel has not been working. Here is the relevant section from my XF86Config:

Code:
Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Mouse1"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "SynapticsMouse1"
    Driver "synaptics"
    Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
    Option "EdgeMotionMinSpeed" "200"
    Option "MinSpeed" "0.8"
    Option "MaxSpeed" "1.00"
    Option "BottomEdge" "650"
    Option "EdgeMotionMaxSpeed" "200"
    Option "UpDownScrolling" "0"
    Option "CircScrollTrigger" "2"
    Option "SHMConfig" "on"
    Option "EmulateMidButtonTime" "75"
    Option "CircScrollDelta" "0.1"
    Option "LeftEdge" "120"
    Option "FingerLow" "14"
    Option "HorizScrollDelta" "20"
    Option "MaxTapMove" "110"
    Option "MaxTapTime" "180"
    Option "FingerHigh" "15"
    Option "VertScrollDelta" "20"
    Option "CircularScrolling" "1"
    Option "AccelFactor" "0.015"
    Option "RightEdge" "830"
    Option "TopEdge" "120"
EndSection
AFAIK this is exactly how Mandriva configured it automatically.

My wheel is detected by the Mandriva Control Center's mouse applet, but doesn't seem to work anywhere outside of there.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
- QS Computing.

Usually the protocol is IMPS/2 rather that ordinary PS/2 to activate the scroll wheel. I don't know about ExplorerPS/2. Try IMPS/2 ?

Actually, I've noticed that the wheel IS working, but not how I expect. It is defaulting to scroll the horizontal bar rather than the vertical one, and in Firefox it is acting as back and forward buttons. Any ideas how to get it to reliably scroll the vertical bar?
