USB headphones work with Youtube, Facebook etc, but not with other websites..?

Hi all, I'm a bigtime Linux newbie.I'm running Ubuntu 16.04. I have a problem with my USB headset. I can listen to YouTube videos, or videos embedded in Facebook on USB headset, but on Udemy and Rosetta Stone the sound comes out over the speakers. It seems if a stand alone window is launched it switches to Speakers. Using the normal audio jack works fine. I'm using Firefox and installed the flash player. The left-side / right-side test under Sound in the Settings works fine. Someone suggested installing PulseAudio Volume Control, but that can't see those pages either. Any ideas? Thanks for your help...Emmet

This page might possibly have a clue
https://unix.stackexchange.com/quest...n-sound/204783

I know about USB sound problems, but usually it's that USB is ignored completely. The only exception I've ever seen is with KDE, where KDE apps use phonon and nothing else does, so you have to configure twice. You seem to be having a similar situation. What desktop are you using?

USB sound (and any sort of sound) generally seems to give more problems in Debian-based distros, and Ubuntu questions are usually the ones that nobody knows about!
