2.6.9-gentoo-r something kernel, yes it does have USB configured in it.
This is basically what goes on, I plug in my pendrive / printer it is noticed then no entry in /dev appears. Here is a lil output to prove the point:
Code:
bash-2.05b# dmesg | tail
usbcore: registered new driver usblp
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: v0.13: USB Printer Device Class driver
usb 1-6: new high speed USB device using address 3
Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
scsi2 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices

Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
USB Mass Storage device found at 3
usbcore: registered new driver usb-storage
USB Mass Storage support registered.
So that looks fine, the drive is /dev/sda on the other two distros I have installed so:
Code:
bash-2.05b# mount /dev/sda /mnt/pen
mount: special device /dev/sda does not exist
Same with /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb /dev/sdb1 etc.
The USB support seems to be OK so why no device? Any help much appreciated.
