(Research showed me issues and answers sounding similar to but different than this one)
When I connect a new USB 32GB MP3 player to my computer via USB cable, the system:
- Makes the system's "inserting a device" sound
- Shows the device in the "Disks" app
But the device does
not show up in Nemo, on the Desktop, or in /media (which means I can't add/remove podcasts from it).
However, if I insert this device and then do a system restart, after login the device
does appear in Nemo, on the Desktop, and in /media.
Things I've tried that haven't made a difference:
- Swapping the cable with one that works for an older USB device that does mount normally
- Swapping to a different computer (same distro)
- Trying different USB ports
