First make a folder in /mnt

mkdir /mnt/usbdrive

open fstab
vi /etc/fstab

Insert following line
/dev/sda1 /mnt/usbdrive vfat noauto,user,rw 0 0

When you done this plug in your usbdrive

run the following command

mount /mnt/usbdrive

Enter the drive

cd /mnt/usbdrive

run the following command to see what is on the drive

ls -al

Good Luck

mount: can't find /mnt/usbdrive in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

Your usb should connect to sda1 or sda2, if you have more than one usb dive.
So line 4: /dev/usb /mnt/usbdrive vfat no auto, joseph, rw 0 0
is not correct it should be something like this
/dev/sda1 /mnt/usbdrive vfat noauto,user, rw 0 0
remember there should be no space between no and auto

The user that I used is joseph. Here is how it reads:
/dev/usb /mnt/usbdrive vfat noauto, joseph, rw 0 0
It still fails:
[mntent]: line 4 in /etc/fstab is bad
mount: can't find /mnt/usbdrive in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
Neither sda1 or sda2 exist. If I need to create them, then I need instructions.

on FC2 currently recompiling to kernel 2.6.9

Fc now doesnot seem to recognise hot plugging of flash drive

how ever that is not what this post is about

I started to get the error two posts above, where it says "line X is bad"

___________________________________________
/dev/usb /mnt/usbdrive vfat noauto, joseph, rw 0 0
It still fails:
[mntent]: line 4 in /etc/fstab is bad
_____________________________________________

I deleted the space b4 "rw" and it stopped complaining, interesting thing was that vi did not mark the text red then, it became green, I guess there was some kind of error checking

Anyways hope you solved it cinnamonq
