Angry Tvout dont work / messes my consoles up

Hi there,

I have a funny prob with my tvout. Whenever my tvout is plugged in, my consoles from F1 to F6 are all messed up. The consoles F2 to F6 are just a black blank screen. The F1 console looks like some kind of modern art:
normally, the Suse screen and the boot messages/login are present. But in this case I just have some kind of pixel-block-salad. It still reacts on ctr-alt-del for reboot, though.
The X with KDE is running nice and stable on F7.
So, whenever I plug the tv cable out and reboot my box, everything turns to normal.

I also tried to configure the tvout as mentioned in the readme, without any effects.

The hardware is o.k., no probs with M$ winxp.....

This irritates me a bit, and I dont want to boot "xploit" only for watching a movie on my TV...

I hope there is a workaround or something. All I want is just to have consoles and tvout work

Thanks in advance

P.S.: I'm quite a Linux newbie, so please be patient

Some more or less important specs:

Suse 9.0 pro
nvidia driver 5336
Leadtek Gf4 Ti4400 Board

Spamming my XF86Config here (tvout options removed-->did not work at all), suggestions for Sax2 configuration are welcome:

The problem has nothing to do with Xfree, but instead the framebuffer setting that you're using. Tell me which bootloader you use, and I'll give you the code you should use for each. Remember, a TV only has a resolution of 320x240, so the vga mode for the framebuffer can't be set higher than that.

Thanks for your quick answer

I'm using Grub.

In apps like tvtool i've seen resolutions from 640x480 to 800x600 for the tv settings. That confuses me now a bit

Is it possible to clone my 1400x1050 crt to a 320x240 PAL tv (that multihead thing...)?

man, i feel like a noob again

hmmm,

I think I've found the framebuffer settings you mentioned in the /boot/grub/menu.lst.

But it did not do the trick. As root I called up hwinfo --framebuffer to list the modes of my board. But the only change in the behaviour is that (as expected) the boot message letters are really huge

As long I have my tvout cable plugged, theres pixel salad on the F1 to F6 consoles. I've tried all 320x240 modes, but the problem is still there. weird...

I've recently switched to Grub, so I do know the workings of it. Try vga=normal instead so that it doesn't use a framebuffer.

Yes! Thanks a lot!

That worked fine. The messages appear different, but I can read them and thats what i wanted to have!
Now I can start reconfiguring my tv-out and I hope it will work now.

Maybe I'll start a new thread called "noob cant get tv-out to work", but thats another matter

Thanks again

Greetings
