TV out in linux?

I am currently a student living with 3 other guys in our own house, we all have computers connected to the net via a 5th computer currently running windows for the sole reason that it has no monitor and is connected directly to our tv.

I would very much like to get linux up and running on the sever and have tried, but although the card itself (a GeForce 4ti4400) will handle the graphics during the installation process, as soon as the xserver takes over properly the output becomes garabled.

Where can I find a driver that will allow me to run X through the tv, and also will it be possible to use 3d acceleration as well?

Talking

my friend what version of linux are you running my best advice is as i am too a newbie join Red hat download is completely free and you only paid $20 per year for all the updates on your hardware and software its so userfriendly you wouldn't belive it.

other than that you are best doing a search at driveshq.com site for linux OS

if that fails then type www.google.com/linux and then do your sereach for drivers.

let me know how you get on.

Roy, just download the NVIDIA driver, install it before you enter the X-server and plug the tv into the video card (S-video or composite...whatever you have going into the TV).

In the XF86Config-4 file, do all of the normal changes that the Nvidia readme states you should do (or just search these forums for a million answers on how to do that). Just add the "TV OUT" option under devices and set the resolutiuon to the TV's resolution. You won't see anything on the TV (you will on a monitor until you boot the x-server , then the TV takes over) till the X-server has booted.

**Edit**
Yes, 3d works fine - i tape UT2003 and Savage games on my VCR (well i did till this whole AMD64 Athlon agpgart stuff - the K8T800 isn't supported in the Nvidia linux install yet).
