What disk are you trying to boot with? Is it a windowXP installation disk 1 or is it something else like a "rescue" disk.
If it is a XP installation disk, then you may need to use a boot floppy (even a windows 98 boot floppy will work). If that still doesn't work then I would just install Mandrake9 on the whole thing and use the XP cdrom as a drink coaster.

You can try and run them with VMware, but alot of games don't work well, it depends on the games. You can google to find out how well supported they are.
If you got RH8, just leave free space for XP when you install. If you can, hold off and try and get XP installed first on 1/2 the hard drive. Trust me, I'm serious when I say it is much easier to install windoze first then linux.
Sorry, I don't use IRC ;(

if your on linux, first mount the floppy with:
mount /mnt/floppy
then copy the file with:
cp boot.ini /mnt/floppy/boot.ini
then unmount the floppy:
umount /mnt/floppy

1. make sure you are in the same directory as the boot.ini file
2. check the permissions on the file:
ls -al | grep boot.ini
should be: -rwxrw-r-- # creatorname ownername
if ownername is not your username login as root and try copying it

Download an XP bootdisk from:
http://www.drd.dyndns.org/index2.html
You want the single boot disk not the 6 disk set. It should be towards the bottom of the page. If that doesn't work you may want to try a more Windows-centric forum.
