Testing Motherboard

I am having problems connecting to the internet right now. I'm running on a T1 line and I haven't had problems until the past two days connecting. I have a feeling that I might have destroyed my network card (part of my motherboard)...how can I test this? My computer has been running VERY hot...no clue why but could that have caused major damage? When I go into the network settings it shows that the card is ok and that the ineternet is "active" but nothing works. Checked DNS settings and they look fine. HELP PLEASE!

I even tried running knoppix to see if I could connect online...no such luck.

P.S. I'm a newbie so you'll have to explain details...sorry

Get some cooling!

Too hot = sillicon death.

I'd be supprised if the integrated LAN overheated (unless it's gigabit), but other parts may well have done. Does anything else behave oddly or become unstable?

I'd get some extra cooling if I were you - fans, heatsinks, whatever. So long as it keeps your machine cooler.

Try checking the output of dmesg and see what it says about the network adapter.

Hope this helps!
