I have a brand new system I just built & when I attempt to install Debian Linux, the installer locks up. I lose all USB devices like keyboard and mouse and the installer stops loading files.

I thought maybe it was because I was using a 32 bit install CD on a 64 bit CPU but it locked up on the AMD_64 install CD as well.

I am not sure what the heck the problem could be. When I use a live CD or Windows XP, there is no problem on the hardware but Debian Linux 32/64 both take a dump during the install.

Hardware:

- Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
- Asus P5N32-E SLI
- G.Skill DDR2 Ram 4x1GB = 4GB total
- XFX GeForce 8600GTS 256MB

Any suggestions?

You might check the bios and try disabling any hardware raid. My only other thought would be to try a Lenny or Sid install. I think you can get weekly or nightly builds of Lenny or Sid from the Debian servers.

Issue resolved. Ran Memtest86 and found 1GB stick of 4 was throwing up massive errors.
