Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Suse 10.0 and PCI128 Sound card

I'm really not sure if this is a software or a hardware problem, so I apologise if I'm in the wrong place. Linux 10.0 needs its sound card setup and I have a known good PCI 128 installed, but when Yast2 is used to set up the card, I get an error message
" The kernel module snd-ens 1371 for sound support could not be loaded - ? incorrect module parameters including IO or IRQ parameters"
I have no idea what the correct parameters may be, or where they are to be installed, or how to pass them.
I can find no useful information in my books or yet on the net, and would be most grateful for any guidance, more so if you don't assume too much basic knowledge on my side, as I'm pretty low in the Linux skills.
Thank you in advance.

bridgend0,
It is not a hardware issue.
I remember having a lot of problems getting ens1371 to run on SUSE 10.0 (note: on a different box than the present), but eventually my SB128PCI worked.
Google e.g. "incorrect module ens1371" and you will find you are not alone at all. These results (there are a lot ...) can serve as pointers.

You can run lsmod (try also, more specifically: lsmod | grep snd), and lspci and see what modules are loaded, and what hardware is recognised and how.
There is a chance that you will have to recompile the kernel, but I know I never had to.

If you haven't done so already, update SUSE 10.0 itself.

I know this is not much, but I hope it helps at least a bit.
