spontaneous reboot

My intranet server is going through a crazy spontaneous reboots. The reboots are incosistent. I have checked the var/log messages. I am not getting some idea. I have checked the fan and the power supply. They are all working OK.

Have you checked your BIOS settings for temperature monitoring? I know of servers that will shut down if it becomes overheated.

Varies depending on the BIOS vendor my friend. In other words, I don't know. Look any and everywhere to see if there's a temperature maximum or similar. If there's not then i wouldn't suspect that it's the BIOS.

my dad had a problem similar to yours on a mandriva box. do a lsmod and see if there are modules named fan, cpu, etc. if so remove them from /etc/modules and reboot.
