Speed Touch Alcatel

I have a "Speed Touch Alcatel" and I get a compile error it says I need to enable ATM in the kernel... I have a couple questions because I'm a little confused.

1) Do I really need the driver? Won't rp-pppoe work without it?

2) Why do I need ATM when I am going to use PPPOE?

Any help would be awsome .... see ya!

ATM or ACM?
Have a look here for info on ACM.
Did you get the driver here?

I got the modem installed, but it doesn't connect .. all the drivers are loaded (I ran lsmod to see) but when I run "pppd call adsl" it does nothing and then when I run ifconfig I get nothing .... so something is not working correctly ... I installed the drivers as follows:

unpacked the drivers and installed them then I run a script to automate it all and then checked to make sure it works and eveything is correct.

The drivers are using PPPOA and my ISP is using PPPOE is there any drivers that will work with this protocol and NOT RP-PPPOE that is for
network cards, Or is there away to get it running on USB device?

Do you have the PRO or the HOME version?
I have the HOME one and I converted it to PRO, making it a router. So the only thing I have to do is to configure and raise net.eth0 without having to dial and use ppp.
