Ive got a dell inspiron 600m laptop with the following audio card:

The sound quality that Im getting out of my laptop isnt very enjoyable, it sounds as though it is playing really loud out of a pair of headphones sitting on my desk. Im interested in possibly getting some larger external speakers for it, but I want to know if the sound quality with this card will be decent at all. Also, Im wondering if anyone could suggest some decent speakers too if its worth getting them. They will be used for listening to music CDs and occasionally DVDs.

That's not a soundcard. That's a modem. I assume, though you have the intel onboard sound card. That's what I have. You can get pretty decent sound out of it. I run it through my stereo so I can't recommend any speakers.
